CLASS PLAN: ADULTS ONLY
WARM UP: Meet the instructor and learn the basics of working with Discharging solutions and the (fabric) Discharge Dyeing process employing several methods including:
TECHNIQUES PRESENTED: Stenciling, Masking, Stamping and Sprinkling.
PRACTICE: Try out Discharge Dyeing techniques on small fabric swatches.
DISCUSSION TIME Q&A: Review results and critique how the techniques fulfilled expectations and how to achieve specific effects.
DESIGN OVERVIEW: Brief refresher of basic design concepts and discussion of how TIME is a major factor of the Discharge Dyeing process.
STUDENT WORKSHOP: CREATE YOUR OWN ARTWORK(S) during the remainder of the class. Sketch out your artwork and plan for the “time” factor. Once finished, your artwork will be rinsed, towel–dried and ironed.
CREATE POSTCARDS if time permits using practice swatches.
**Safety: Safety glasses and protective gloves will be provided. All techniques are controlled on the work surface and should not splash. Caution to be taken is mostly in regards to touch-transfer of discharging solutions.
