From the Ground Up - Nathan Groves, Photography August 28 and 29, 11am-2pm
An introductory photography class for the serious beginner. Taught by local photographer Nathan Groves.
6-8 hours total over 2 days 11am to 2 pm with possible time overrun.
From the Ground Up
(Please note that From the Ground Up is a new class; the first class may have some schedule changes due to timing (possibly moving the studio flash portion to Day 2, etc.) but all information will be taught)
From the Ground Up is a complete, fast-paced 6-8 hour photography class taught over two days. It is designed to get the serious beginner photographer started on the right path from the get-go, learning on Day 1:
- How to manually control exposure and focus
- The importance of composition and some of the tried-and-true rules of it
- How to identify equipment and what certain pieces are used for
- All about lenses, and when to use which
- Different types of lighting and how they can be used
- …and much more.
Day 1 is all lecture, practical application of skills in the classroom, and labs. At the end of Day 1, students will be sent home with basic homework: capture the sunset that night as best they can using what they learned from the class. They may also be asked to take other photos to be processed during Day 2.
Day 2 is all about developing your photos using industry standard RAW development software utilized by commercial photographers the world over. We’ll go over the interface step-by-step, and work on photos together until you get the hang of it and feel confident enough to work on your own (or until the time is up).
Everyone that takes the class will also have access to an exclusive Discord server, where all students that have ever taken the class can share their work, ask questions, set up collaborations, etc. It will be managed by Nathan, the instructor.
Any digital interchangeable lens camera capable of RAW image capture. Files must be compatible with Capture One (practically anything made within the last 15 years).
At least one lens for said camera; it must be capable of autofocus.
A decent-sized memory card appropriate for your camera.
(If you are looking to purchase a camera and/or computer and want to take the class, the instructor can assist you in finding something good to get you started)
A modern laptop (6 years old or newer), preferably with an IPS display, SSD, and Windows 10.
A card reader capable of reading the type of card your camera uses. The laptop must be able to plug into it.
